Flos, '2129' ceiling pendant lamp, 1969. This new LED 2129 FLOS Light Pendant Lamp is a re-edition of Arteluce's model 2129 (modelo 21-29) by Gino Sarfatti. Flos Modelo 2129 Lamps evoke the restrained modern aesthetics of Gino Sarfatti's 1950s midcentury modernist lamp styles. Designed by Sarfatti, an Italian lighting legend, the Model 2129 Drop Light from Flos Lighting consists of a counterweight and an arc in transparent methacrylate that is attached to the ceiling and can rotate horizontally through 360 degrees. Model 2129 has a ceiling canopy and a painted brass counterweight along with a cup-shaped reflector made of two lathed aluminum pieces painted white and caviar grey. The Mod 2129 suspension lamp features the arched post concept that Achille Castiglionis had employed in the iconic early 1960s Arco floor lamp for Flos – yet here Sarfatti has eliminated the heavily weighted base by mounting the top of the transparent methacrylate arch directly to the ceiling.

 With 2129, Gino Sarfatti brought the droplight to new heights with his elegant design that swoops across the room in an impressive arc. Like the original piece, this LED-enabled update can be turned 360 degrees, showering a pool of light wherever it’s positioned. The only wire is fed through a transparent tube, and a counterweight allows the cup-shaped reflector to be moved up and down with ease. This clever engineering of Mod 2129 creates the illusion that the arch and diffuser are floating within the space – its associated cord conveniently plugs into a wall outlet eliminating the hard-wiring associated with most suspension or pendant fixtures. The white painted brass ceiling mount that supports Mod 2129’s transparent arch will pivot a full 360 degrees. The original incandescent bulb within the diffuser has been replaced with an LED multichip. Mod 2129′s white cord features an in-line switch; its saucer-shaped cup diffuser is composed of lathed aluminum painted in a combination of white and caviar gray finishes.
